(Charismatic) Preterism
AKA – True Preterism, Fullness Preterism, Mature Preterism
Charismatic Preterism is a variation of the Full Preterist view that takes a different approach from traditional Full Preterism concerning the charismatic sign gifts of 1 Corinthians 13 and Daniel 9. The argument is made that while the church sees God “face to face” and that while the “perfect has come,” the ushering in of the perfect, mature church was not the point of “ceasing” of the charismatic sign gifts, but was the point of ushering in a fuller reality of these gifts in the Church which had not existed before. Proponents argue that while the sign gifts have not been primarily evidenced in the church throughout its history since AD70, the maturation of the church has lead us to a point in time in which these gifts and signs will once again be seen and shown through Christians who show a proper understanding of the gifts, in addition to the required faith that is necessary for them to be received and used. Thus, the primary difference among traditional full preterism and charismatic full preterism is whether or not there is a continuation of the sign gifts of tongues, prophecy, and new revelation (knowledge) in addition to the miraculous events that accompany these gifts. Charismatic Preterism is very similar to Pentecostal or Charismatic Futurist interpretations, except for the eschatological differences that exist between them.
